February activities

Myer's class in the Jellyfish room has received a few new babes, and he's now smack in the middle in terms of ages. New friends include Umra, Matthew, Mackenzie and Giovanna. Last week, Myer sat in the high chair with the older ones for the first time; he gnawed a teething ring while the others ate snack. Here he is (in the green Bumbo) with Miss Jennifer at "story time."

During the month of February our moble jellies explored pink finger paint, sensory table with textured rubber balls and exposed to the outdoors on the grass and in the sand. Our non mobile jellies are moving right along. They have been enjoying the Bumbo chairs as well as all of our new equipment. We have recieved new soft climbing structures, new boppy blankets, new books and blocks as well.

Rory continues to have a blast with friends Ardan, Bryce, Skylar, Natalie and Maddy in the Tide Pool. This past month the class has been learning about dental hygiene (you'll recall from a previous post I was ecstatic about this subject).

We learned about how to keep our teeth healthy. The children were able to practice on several teeth models. They too, were provided with a math activity (sequence exercise) in which the children were given the opportunity to arrange in sequence three different pictures: (Floss, Brush, and Rinse) to show their understanding on dental care. At one show and tell day we shared our toothbrush and talked about why it was special. With this in mind, we were able to make a graph and see which color brush had the most and the least and we enjoyed learning math concepts. To further our understanding on dental care we became exposed to library resources such as Staying Healthy: Dental Care by Alice B. McDingty and Going to the Dentist by Fred Rogers. We also had Dr. Miller (dentist) come and share about brushing and flossing. We also, started a unit on healthy food for our teeth and body which we will continue next month.

Rory's toothbrush is from the Little Einsteins, and he's now really good about brushing. I think his favorite part is the spitting, which 9 times out of 10 ends up around the faucet instead of the sink bowl. But hey, that's okay as long as he's not clamping his mouth shut anymore!
