Summer shenanigans

As promised in the previous post, here is a summary of what we've been up to the past 2 months.

• Rory gets a "pet" - Technically not his first pet (two goldfish that promptly died), we spent one weekend afternoon painting pet rocks. While watching one of his shows on Noggin, they showed a little Brit kid making a prickly garden with different mini-cacti. Rory wanted to make one, too. I got a round shallow pot, soil and then he picked out the plants. To give it a little more color, I thought it would be fun to paint rock critters. I painted two - Rory begged me for a Totoro and I also had to make a fish, just cuz. Rory made a tiger, ladybug, octopus, and I don't really know that the green one is. They now live in the pot with the cacti on the deck.
• Myer gets a new teacher - Miss Olga is back from her maternity leave. Along with Lulu, she ensures the kids are exposed to songs and books in Spanish. He is also blowing everyone away with his vocabulary and pronunciation. Yesterday's word was praying mantis. And, he has also become quite the little actor perfecting his "sad" face.
• Rory and Myer play sports - The boys continue to bond (and fight) over games of basketball and soccer in the backyard. Rory will be starting soccer camp next week, stay tuned! Myer's right foot is as good as Rory's was at his age; needless to say Dad is already contemplating professional exploits of the Brookhart boys.
• Mom and Dad get a new car - A previously-owned 2008 Toyota Highlander hybrid. We love it, just LOVE it! The Element was a good car but just didn't have enough seating. The hybrid is such fun to drive. Irony of ironies (I think?) is that our salesman is the bartender we befriended on our first date that wasn't a date (Tom from the Crown 'n Anchor, for those who may recall). We've been together almost 11 years, so this must be a good omen.
• Speaking of couplehood - We spent our 6th wedding anniversary oblivious to the affair. How did it almost sneak past us? Thank god Grandma called to wish us "happy anniversary" around 3pm or we may not have remembered at all!
• Rory is now registered for kindergarten - He will be attending Bayview Elementary. He had to get five shots, but was very brave. The first three he didn't cry at all. The following visit for the last two, the tears fell (blasted MMR!). But gelato made it all better. :)
