From the May newsletter:
Late March and early April was an exciting time for the Seahorse class. We finished 26 weeks of "Letter of the Week". Students were also encouraged to know they had accomplished a task, having printed all the letters from Aa - Zz. We are no introducing zoophonics to the children. In this activity, the children get to act out animal characters for each letter of the Alphabet (alligator for A, etc.). This activity is another avenue for children to learn how to read. The children, as a group, are now reading simple words, such as bat, cat, car, hat, etc.
From the June newsletter:
The month of May was a great time for the Seahorse class. We began our Zoophonic series. Many of our students are enjoying acting out the characters of the alphabet from A-Z. Our students are growing stronger on a daily basis as they get ready for Kindergarten. Our "All About Me Series" is comming along great. We were able to create "self portraits".
We have been enjoying new plants in the science area and enjoyed discussing, "What we can do to care for plants?" One popular project that took place in Science was our life cycle of a plant graph. Our students created a sun and talked about various needs a plant needs in order to grow. We talked about planting seeds in soil and the importance of water and air in order to help a plant grow... Our students have been developing a strong awareness of reading and writing readiness. Therefore, our focus has also turned towards numbers. We are enjoying writing numbers durning "printing practice" as well. The children have been able to do simple math through "finger play" and songs. Our manipulative center has been great as far as allowing our children to sort, sequence, and pattern.
June also saw the preschool graduation, subject of the next post. In the meantime, here he is with some recent artwork - boy is he enthused to show you all his sea horse and "rain scene" complete with oyster:
