Meaning of friendship

Lately, we've both given a lot of thought to the recipe for friendship at Rory's age (here he is with BFF Ardan at the Aquarium). What does 'being friends' actually mean? I look at pictures such as this - pure joy - and wonder.

Is it just playing well together, i.e., not getting in each other's way? Liking the same things (but not at the same time... 'hey, that's my lego')? Or is it more subconscious than that, with perhaps a dash of chemistry?

And what about the kind of friendship that develops (and sometimes does not) between siblings? I look around - Matt and Lisa, Siobhan and me, Grammy and Aunt Kathy, Grandma and Aunt Inez - and know Rory and Myer will have lots of role models among our family and friends.

All the poking and squishing Myer currently experiences is surely an indication of the developing bond between brothers. I'll just keep telling myself that... any correlation between the force of the squeeze and the strength of the bond?

Rory shoulder-popped again tonight right on cue, he must really dig those painted ponies. :)
