March retropsective

Just received the daycare's monthly newsletter and wanted to share the activities of the boys' classes. Rory and friend Ardan graced the cover with their big smiles.
Tide Pool - As I previously wrote, Rory has been learning all about food and making good choices. In March:

Tide Poolers learned about the Food Pyramid and the importance of each food group. For example, grains have carbohydrates and give us energy and fruits regulate our bodies internally.

In our language arts unit, we were fortunate in having a local Librarian, Ms. Lisa come to visit. In class the children were issued their very own Tidepool library cards. Then they were able to borrow books and care for them (Rory's first selection was Ernie's Neighborhood from Sesame Street). Later on in the month, they all made their own books to read and share (this must have been an 'optional' art activity).

This week has also been the Scholastic book fair. Rory donated two books to his class, which he proudly chose for Ms. Betty and Ms. Mary: The Littlest Owl and I Love You, Sleepyhead. As a treat, I let him pick out one for himself: My Lucky Day, which is about a clever piglet who tricks a fox (and coyote and bear) into giving him a bath, gourmet dinner and massage instead of eating him. You'll note that these are all books about animals, which seems to be a favorite theme for the moment... dinosaurs out, animals (esp tough or brave ones) in.

Next up in the month of April are the Trike-a-thon on the 15th, pictures on the 22nd and -

We will do a science unit on plant growth and continue the life cycle of a butterfly, our resident caterpillars Fluffy, Henry, Rex and Cheerful are entering their chrysalis stage.

We will use our science and language activities to help strengthen the children's math and language skills.

Rory has also taken to playing soccer based on the matches he sees on tv. His favorite thing is to assign teams and players to himself, Matt and me. He is 'Monton' from Manchester United.
We're not sure who Monton is, but apparently he is a very good player who can do lots of tricky moves.

"Watch this, Dad! This is kinda tricky..."

Recently, I was 'Monseed' from Tottenham, and Matt was assigned the position of goal post.
