Happy 4th, Rory!

Can't believe how quickly the time flies. I know childhood passes quickly (though not so quickly for the one actually going through it), but the rapidity of time's flight still amazes me from time to time. Milestones, especially annual occurrences such as birthdays, are a reminder of this.

We didn't overhype the birthday this year, and last year it was somewhat overshadowed by Myer's arrival a scant two weeks prior. I wanted it to be an intimate yet fun event for Rory, so we booked space at the local rock climbing gym and invited 10 of his buddies, two of whom actually showed. Quality over quantity was the theme of the day; despite the low turnout, it was a blast as with his good buddies Ardan and Skylar.

Rory was a little hesitant at first, excited about getting the special shoes and harness on but then not sure at all about actually ascending. Ardan and Skylar had apparently gone climbing before - they had hardly put on their gear when they were half way up the wall. Rory looked on, wanting desperately to join his friends up in the air but a little afraid. When he finally got up the nerve, it was just a little ways up but high enough to satisfy his sense cautious adventure. Afterwards, it was time for a little pizza and cupcakes and then pinata-bashing.
